"Come R.U.N. with us."

That’s the motto and message that the founders of Reviving Urban Neighborhoods, Inc., or R.U.N., want to send to the community.

The mission of R.U.N. is to provide the urban community with programs and resources to enrich, educate, and enhance a disenfranchised population. R.U.N. offers programs that use various disciplines and tactics to engage the urban community.

Their most popular program is called the R.U.N. League. The RUN League is a free summer indoor men's basketball league targeting young men ages 18-35 in the urban core. Through this league, they provide various resources so that the participants and attendees may enhance their life-skills and career readiness. They are using the R.U.N. League to show young people in the urban community that life is bigger than sports and street life. They are striving to help as many young men as possible break away from the negativity that surrounds and pursue higher educational and employment opportunities so that they may lead full productive lives.

The R.U.N. league is highly competitive and has featured over 25 overseas and NBA professional players. The league also has hosted a number of former college players and because of this level of competition the interest remains high.  A unique feature of the league is that each registered participant is drafted by the coaches and placed on teams with players from rival neighborhoods. The league has created a brotherhood throughout the city with young men who had never met each other before, encouraging them to network and work together in peace.

The organizers also invite various community organizations to their league games to provide information, services and opportunities to not only the players, but anyone else in the community who may need help. In past years that has included multiple staffing agencies, job development programs, military recruiters, financial institutions (to help with credit building, home ownership, etc.), colleges, mental health professionals and  a host of others.

The work that this grassroots organization is doing is critical for our community's future and that is why the 3AGA has gladly joined their mission.
